” (Madalena)

“Despite the scorching heat, the team kept their spirits up and the shooting was fun. What I enjoyed doing the most was the sound, because I found that there is so much more to it than I expected.  » (Madalena)

“What I most enjoyed doing was the directing and the camera, because I had never experienced it. I liked that whole ritual of making the bubble, focusing, choosing the diaphragm, recording…”

” (Francisca)

“I really liked this year’s theme, the weather. It made more sense to me than last year which was the sensations. And I really liked how we integrated some excerpts that we saw into the things we shot, how we used them as examples for what we wanted to film.

In shooting, I really enjoyed taking notes, pointing out everything, drawing the drawings. I was also an actress, which was a novelty. It’s weird to see my face on the screen… I don’t know if I like it, I probably don’t. And it’s very different being in front of the camera and not behind, because we only have our sense of what we’re doing and only then, when we see the footage, we see what’s left. ” (Francisca)

(Carolina)

“The shooting weekend was super fun. I really enjoyed making the sound and making the sound with Simão.” (Carolina)

(Clara)

“At the beginning I was a bit lost, I wasn’t expecting to be given so much freedom, but that was really cool.

What I most enjoyed doing was the camera. First because I understood how it works and then because I realized that I can, with the camera, transform what I’m seeing. It’s the same image, but I can transform it through light, through focus. I look around and absorb everything, but there I am abstracted from all the senses, I am left with only the vision and I transform the image. It even looked like it wasn’t right there…” (Clara)

“I really liked the progress of the shooting and I like how in the film we managed to make each character have their own rhythm. And I also really liked shooting the unpredictability, a lot because of Lola, that at the moment we had to find alternatives. I also loved making music with Carolina.” (Simão)

December 2010, running of fiscal year 1.2. – dynamic tension

Two girls play Djenga. When will the tower fall?
In a human wheel a water balloon is thrown from hand to hand. When will it b
urst?

Abril 2021, rodagem do exercício 1.3.

April 2021, running of exercise 1.3. – plastic transformation

Through a mirror misted by water vapor over the fire, we see a girl singing while she finishes tidying up the kitchen.

Conversa sobre as rodagens (5 de Maio

shooting conversation (May 5)

“Running the plastic transformation exercise took longer than running the Djenga or balloon exercise. The action was much more complex, and it was not just an action, because the water was boiling, and the mirror had to mist up and only then would she turn off the fire, clean the mirror, sit down. In the other exercises the plan was made and while the game was taking place it was filmed.

(Francisca)

“I felt more focused, there was a good atmosphere with Sara singing and we suggested other songs with each take. I think we really worked as a group. Last year I was in the team of sound – in which we are focused on everything, because the sound is super sensitive – and had made notes – in which we are from side to side and always watching everything. Now I did the camera and it was amazing to concentrate only on that rectangle … ”(Francisca)

O Zé estava sempre a explicar imensas coisas. ” (Madalena)

“Yes, we were super focused on the rectangle, but there is a lot to see: the light, the diaphragm, the focus with the meter count … Zé was always explaining a lot of things. «  (Madalena)

“ (Carolina)

“I just made sound last year and this year too, because I love the sound. Until now it had always been outdoors, but this time we filmed in the kitchen of the canteen …. I don’t think anyone was aware of how much the sound of the fridge was annoying us! It was very different, because at other times the work was mainly looking for the best place to capture the sound, while this time it was looking for how to solve problems. «  (Carolina)

“ (Clara)

“I did the realization and at the beginning I was a little confused, because I was without a group, I was neither in the image nor in the sound, and I was not really understanding what was necessary to do. It’s just that when I did it, at home, I had the camera in my hands, I was deciding while I was filming, not here. So I felt like I wasn’t really doing it. But when the shooting was over, I had nothing left with the feeling of emptiness, as if I had been there doing nothing. «  (Clara)

The ladies are talking and the man gets up and walks away. He neither hears nor sees. But we hear German, which is a very hard language, and we see him move away and go against a branch of a tree, and then it stops and starts to feel the tree: first it seems that it is just identifying what it is, but then it changes. He is feeling the tree that is his way of seeing and resembles a small child who is looking at anything for the first time. But here is not seeing, it is another experience of relating to the world. And yet, we feel what he is feeling. It stays there for a long time, around the trunk and branches. It is the time for contemplation.

We are always changing the scene and in each scene the sound is completely different.

The excerpt begins with them entering the cafe, drinking the coffee, then they are in the middle of the works, then in the middle of traffic, then in a garden. They cross these spaces, but the continuity of the scenes is built, not so much by the route, but by the connection that is being created between them and that is becoming stronger.

From the first moment of insecurity in relation to everything, we have a feeling of “together we have overcome everything”. We see their discovery of the world, together.

The Exercise 2 was worked from paintings. Each student chose one and spoke about it: what was seen? what did you feel? what I imagined from it? Then, at home, they filmed a sequence shot first, and then the same characters, the same action, in the same place, on several planes.

Morning sun (Hopper)

(Clara)

A girl is sitting on the bed looking out of the window at infinity. The room is lit by the sun. We don’t see what she sees, but she also doesn’t seem to be looking at anything: she is inside herself, perhaps remembering something. (Clear)

Summer evening (Hopper)

(Carolina)

The man talks to the woman, she is listening to him, but he is in her world. It feels light, reminiscent of summer nights when we could be close to people. (Carolina)

(Madalena)

On the table are a fruit, a bottle of water, bread. Everything is very tidy. It gives the feeling of calm, but a discussion may be happening next to it. (Madalena)

Someone has set the table, everything is set up to receive someone, and then wait for him to arrive.

(Francisca)

There is a drawing on the wall. There is a figure leaning over, his back to us, very concentrated, completely in his world, drawing. (Francisca)

Stovkornenes Dans
(Hammershoi)

It is an empty space, simple, clear, with the sun coming in through the window. Very calm. It feels very clean. It was nice to undo this calm.

She grows up on the road, gives the feeling that she has always grown up doing the same thing: riding her bike along those paths.

I liked the white lines on the trees, the dog that grew up and the leafy road. If only the actress had changed and the character had appeared older without anything having changed, it was strange, because how could the time have passed without having changed?

It only took two minutes and so many things happened!

We heard their voices saying phrases and very intense music. We don’t hear the sounds of what we see. Things happen one after the other, but time seems to be non-linear. The camera is always behind them, and they go around. It seems that we follow everything, but it is not everything. And then everything becomes faster, the plans become very short, there is an acceleration, there are many things happening, advances and retreats. And then the music stops, they stop, and although you still feel a tension, you feel that it has passed to another moment, because there is a great contrast, in the sound and in the image, with everything we have seen before: the camera stopped, they are stopped, we hear the sound of the street and of them talking to the man at the gas pump.

Abour film excerpt from Muriel (Resnais)

A man opening doors. It is a movement that is repeated and that will always lead to the same thing, nothing happens: open the door, turn the lights on, look. When a drawer is opened instead there is a break, we were hoping to continue to be more doors. This repetition gives the feeling that time does not advance, it always happens the same, almost as if it were always the same door. But there is growing tension. To intensify the sequence here, time is not extended, it is subtracted: the real time of the movement between the doors does not exist, because it is not relevant and don’t contribute to the rhythm of the sequence.
